ethos.
‘To witness that calm rhythm of life revives our worn souls and recaptures a feeling of belonging to the natural world.’ ~ George Schaller
As a conscious photographer, my repeated lesson when photographing and travelling in Africa is that Nature is our home; a place we all long for, a feeling of belonging to the natural world.
Whilst my work takes me to photograph remote and wild places, it’s when I’m immersed in the present moment - and notice the scents, the sights and the sounds of the African Wilderness - that I remember that I belong. My heartbeat slows down, my breath is deeper and my entire nervous system gently exhales. And I feel the gift of what it means to be alive, a primal kind of joy, I am connected to every living thing.
I am well aware that it’s a privilege to travel for work the way I do, and I believe with privilege comes responsibility. I hope that my pictures will inspire conscious and meaningful travel to our planet’s remaining wild spaces, so they can be protected. And I hope that more people can experience the mystery, wonder and awe of being deeply immersed in Nature - because only if you love something, can you protect it.
We are, after all, the future ancestors.
